UPUD Local Hazard Mitigation Plan: Notice of Public Workshop

Announcement for a Hazard Mitigation Plan workshop by UPUD on September 2, 2026, in Murphys, CA. Community input invited.

Local Hazard Mitigation Plan: Notice of Public Workshop

The Union Public Utility District’s Local Hazard Mitigation Plan
The Union Public Utility District (UPUD) is in the process of adopting their Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP). The preparation of a HMP is required under the Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 to be eligible to receive federal disaster assistance and funding. The UPUD’s water supply and conveyance facilities and infrastructure in Calaveras County are vulnerable to a wide range of natural hazards, including  dam incidents, drought, earthquakes, flooding, landslides, severe weather, and wildfires. The HMP will provide UPUD with valuable tools to identify risks and mitigate hazards through future project-specific actions. The HMP will also assess the effects of climate change on natural hazards assessed in the plan and will incorporate climate adaptation strategies.

The UPUD will host a Public Workshop on September 2, 2023, 2:30 - 4:00 P.M. The Public Workshop will be an opportunity to learn more about the planning process, the natural hazards assessed in the UPUD’s Public Review Draft HMP, and how to review and comment on the Public Review Draft HMP. The community is encouraged to participate in the planning process by providing feedback during the Public Workshop, completing an Online Survey, and reviewing the Public Review Draft HMP.

Information on how to participate is provided below:

Workshop Location: 339 Main Street, Murphys, CA
