UPUD Seeks Input on their Local Hazard Mitigation Plan Public Draft, Workshop & Community Survey
UPUD Invites Public Review and Input on Draft Local Hazard Mitigation Plan
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 11, 2026
Murphys, CA – Union Public Utility District (UPUD) is pleased to announce that its Draft Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) is now available for public review and comment. Community members are encouraged to review the draft plan, participate in an upcoming public workshop, and complete the community survey to help shape future hazard mitigation and emergency preparedness efforts.
The LHMP is a critical planning document that identifies natural hazards that could impact UPUD's water and wastewater infrastructure, including drought, wildfire, severe storms, flooding, and other emergencies. The plan outlines strategies to reduce risks, strengthen infrastructure resilience, and help ensure reliable utility services before, during, and after disasters.
"Community input is an essential part of the planning process," said UPUD General Manager Jessica Self. "Residents and customers provide valuable local knowledge that helps us better understand community concerns and prioritize actions that protect our water resources, infrastructure, and public services."
Public Workshop
UPUD will host a public workshop to present the Draft LHMP, discuss identified hazards and mitigation strategies, and gather community feedback.
Date: September 2, 2026
Time: 2:30 - 4:00
Location: 339 Main Street, Murphys
Members of the public are invited to attend, ask questions, and share their perspectives regarding potential natural hazards and preparedness needs within the UPUD service area.
Take the Community Survey
UPUD is also seeking feedback through a community survey. The survey provides residents, businesses, and stakeholders an opportunity to identify concerns, share experiences with past disasters, and help guide future mitigation efforts.
